Building a New Tradition – First Night Austin 2007
On Saturday, December 31, 2006, Austinites came together to celebrate New Year's Eve in an entirely new way. Over 100,000 people came to downtown Austin, eager, open-minded and wide-eyed to a culturally and artistically diverse array of the performing and visual arts. At over 25 different indoor and outdoor locations, with a Grand Procession down Congress Avenue, and midnight Grand Finale with pyrotechnics over Town Lake, celebrants played a creative role in transforming downtown Austin. From 9th and Congress to Auditorium Shores, over 80 artists and arts groups presented projects and performances, much of it originally commissioned for First Night Austin 2007.
We invite you to browse through the photo archives and media clips accessible on our web site - to relive the event you may have attended (find yourself or your friends or family!) or to catch a glimpse of the celebration that you may have missed. (There is always next year!) If you have your own photos you would like to share, please forward them to info@firstnightaustin.org with your name, contact information and a statement of permission to post the images on our web site if we so choose.
Thank you, again, for joining us in celebrating art and community in Austin, Texas.
Happy New Year!
